How to Save Money on Your Hotel Room in New York City

Date:

Are you planning a getaway to the city that never sleeps, New York? Then be prepared to see some pretty high prices when you’re ready to search for a hotel to stay in. The more centrally located your hotel is, and the fancier it is, the more expensive it will be. But there are ways to stay at a great hotel that you’ll love and save money at the time. Check out the tips below.

Choose the Right Time of Year to Visit

Like other cities around the world, there is a more popular tourist season in New York, and booking within or outside of the “high season” could make a big difference in how much you end up spending on your hotel room.

Basically, the most expensive season is the holiday season at the end of the year, along with the weekend during which the New York City Marathon takes place. If you absolutely must be in the city during those times, just expect to pay more money.

The winter season, which runs from January through the middle of March, is a great time to look for bargains. Another good time of year for bargains is the summer, from July through August. And while autumn is the busiest season, November is surprisingly quiet and pretty affordable, so you can check out the city before the holiday rush and price increases.

Look for Economy Hotel Chains

Another great way to save is by booking your stay at one of the many economical hotel chains in the city. These include Ramada and La Quinta, as a couple of examples, and Marriott are also planning to set up in the city . When you compare their rates to others in the city, you may be surprised by how much you can save, even during the busy holiday season.

Stay Out of Midtown

Midtown is a great place to be, but because it’s so easy to get there in a matter of minutes, it’s wise to stay downtown, uptown, or even in any one of the outer boroughs in order to save money on your hotel. In addition to staying out of the expensive Theater District, you will also find great restaurants, you’ll be in more residential neighborhoods, and you won’t have to fight crowds all the time. Check out Queens and Brooklyn for some great deals.

Book Your Stay During a Weekend at a Business Hotel

There are plenty of business hotels in the city that aren’t nearly as busy during the weekend as they are during the week, and Friday through Sunday rates are a lot lower than Monday through Thursday rates for the same rooms. Check out the Financial District, as well as Midtown, for some really good hotel options.

If you are on a budget but you definitely want to book a hotel room in New York City, there are plenty of options available, and there are many ways to save money while still enjoying a comfortable, relaxed stay.
